The Venice Biennale of Architecture will open this weekend, on May 10, for the 19th time, and it will last until November 23.

This year’s event, under the title “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.”, will gather over 750 participants in a multilayer exploration of the role of architecture in adapting to climate change, migrations and artificial forms of intelligence. As announced, this year’s edition, curated by Carlo Ratti, will be the biggest one held yet in Venice, as reported by gradnja.rs.

Based on the contest for the conceptual design of the project which would represent our country, which was open between October 15 and November 15, the project called “Unraveling – New Spaces”, authored by the team consisting of Davor Eres, team representative, Jelena Mitrovic, Igor Pantic, as well as Sonja Krstic and Ivana Najdanovic – textile structure designers, and Petar Lausevic – a kinetics and power engineer, was selected.

Of the total of 29 works sent, five were shortlisted, and the decision on the winner, which was published on the website of the Museum of Applied Art, was explained by the jury:

– The proposed project, with the application of traditional autochthonous weaving skills, offers an optimistic model of interaction and reconnecting in which two intelligences complement each other, always keeping visible the borders of their source domains. Within the thus defined intentions, architecture seems like a transitory mediator between individual and collective experiences, desires, efforts and dreams, reflecting them on a set of possibilities which are reconfigured by artificial intelligence through an architectural projection.

On behalf of the Ministry of Culture, the contest was opened by the Museum of Applied Art and the Union of Architects of Serbia.
