The companies Zorka Opeka and Zorka Keramika have been confirming their position as leaders in the production of construction materials for many years, but what really sets them apart in the market is the strategic commitment to sustainable development and innovations that contribute to environmental protection. Through carefully selected raw materials, the implementation of energy-efficient technologies and continuous investments in the improvement of production processes, these companies are proving that sustainable construction is no longer the future - but the present. From Climabloc blocks to nature-inspired ceramic tiles, their portfolio is an example of how the domestic industry can respond to contemporary environmental and energy challenges, along with high quality and functionality.
The company`s strategy does not only include the production of quality materials, but also constant investment in environmentally acceptable technologies and processes which contribute to the reduction of harmful gas emissions, rational use of resources and energy efficiency.
With Bojan Dabić Zorka Opeka sales director and Zdravko Ivanković Zorka Keramika sales director we talked about how the domestic production of building materials can respond to the modern requirements of energy efficiency, what are the next steps in the development of sustainable technologies, as well as about the innovations that both companies plan to introduce in the coming period.
Bojan: Zorka Opeka and Zorka Keramika use the highest quality clay without artificial additives,
with which we are supplied from our own mines. The quality of the clay used is strictly controlled and monitored. We are proud of the quality of our products that are energy efficient and sustainable, and our pride, apart from individual business and personal satisfaction, also confirms the possession of standards:
- CE certificate
- Quality management systems SRPS ISO 9001:2015
- Environmental management systems SRPS ISO 14001:2015
- Occupational health and safety management systems SRPS ISO 45001:2018
- Energy management systems SRPS ISO 50001:2018
- Business continuity management systems SRPS EN 22301:2019
- Information security management systems ISO 27001:2013
- Product declaration on environmental protection SRPS ISO 14025:2007 and SRPS EN 15804:2020 (translated EPD or green card)
Zdravko: Zorka Keramika has invested in new furnaces with energy-efficient burners in the past year and the automation of certain processes in the creation of products increased energy savings with the aim of further improving the process in the coming period.
The Climabloc line already stands out as an example of a product that contributes to environmental protection and improving the energy efficiency of buildings. What other products from the Zorka Opeka range reflect this commitment and in what way do they contribute to sustainable construction?
Bojan: Zorka Opeka produces Climabloc, facade bricks and ventilation blocks. All products are made of clay, they are long-lasting, resistant to time, which does not affect them. They are in harmony with nature and are environmentally friendly because they are renewable and have a lower impact on the environment. Brick is produced from natural raw materials and its production requires less energy compared to the production of synthetic materials. A material like brick helps to create a healthy living environment without any effects on the air quality in closed rooms.

Zorka Keramika through its ceramic tile collections, inspired by natural materials such as stone, marble and wood, combines aesthetics with environmental sustainability. What other products contribute to energy efficiency and environmental protection?
Zdravko: All Zorka Keramik products and wall and floor tiles are made from our clay which give such attributes to our products with their plasticity and accompanying properties that superior characteristics are achieved with much lower energy consumption. And as such, they are resistant to external influences and, above all, they have a long lifespan.
How do your products contribute to reducing energy consumption and emissions of harmful gases in the construction industry?
Bojan: Buildings made of Klimabloc use less energy for heating and cooling. We stand out from similar products, among other things, by the ecological composition of our raw materials - the highest quality domestic clay without artificial materials.
Zdravko: Zorka Ceramic floor tiles are extremely suitable for underfloor heating systems, but also increasingly popular cooling systems, where low energy consumption systems such as heat pumps are used which use water/water or air/water systems, which are renewable media.

What innovations and investment plans do companies have in relation to environmental protection in the coming period, either through improving production processes, new product development or implementation of ecologically sustainable technologies?
Zdravko: Zorka Keramika, with investments from the previous year, improved the production process by introducing new technologies and smart systems which consume drastically less energy (gas and electricity) through their work and exploitation and mass preparation and glazing systems that use much less water, which is used from its own sources and reused thanks to recycling and separation systems, all without loss, i.e. with an increase in the quality of the end product.
Projects for the installation of equipment for supply from renewable sources are planned,
for which solutions and projects from competent institutions are awaited.
Bojan: In 2025, Zorka Opeka will present a new product for modern and efficient construction – the Climabloc DRYFIX sanded block. It is a block of extremely precise dimensions, ideal for building vertical walls, which is used within the innovative DRYFIX extra system. This system also includes a dedicated one-component PUR adhesive, Climabloc DRYFIX extra, developed exclusively for the bonding of sanded blocks from the same line.
Thanks to this solution, construction becomes faster, cleaner and more efficient - work time is shortened by up to 50% compared to traditional methods, with the need for tools significantly reduced. The system enables simple handling even in winter conditions, at temperatures down to -5°C, and its application brings maximum thermal insulation, because it eliminates the occurrence of thermal bridges.
Blocks are an ideal substrate for plastering - precise, aesthetically uniform and joint-free, which contributes to the perfect finish of the walls. They are suitable for all wall thicknesses, from 10 to 50 cm, while the adhesive provides high resistance to pressure and shear, due to its strong adhesive power.
DRYFIX extra glue is delivered in a package of 810 ml and its application is possible in the ambient temperature range from -5°C to +35°C, while the ideal temperature of the dose content is between +20°C and +25°C. After application, the adhesive becomes non-sticky in 3 to 5 minutes, ready for cutting after 20 to 25 minutes, and it hardens completely in a period of 1.5 to 5 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity of the air. Once hardened, it is temperature resistant from -40°C to +100°C, which guarantees the durability and stability of the construction in all weather conditions.
