Government adopts Bill on Information Security – Operators of ICT systems of special significance split into priority and important ones

The Government of Serbia has adopted the Bill on Information Security which envisages an improvement of the regulatory framework so as to follow modern trends and secure a safe use of ICT systems, announced the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, as reported by the Government.

– The bill brings a redefined approach to this field through a clearer identification of the operators of ICT systems of special importance, which are now split into priority and important ones, with stricter obligations, increased inspection supervision and review, as well as a tightened penalty policy. This document envisages the strengthening of the role of the National CERT in reacting to incidents and threats, improved coordination of the competent bodies and a more precise regulation of the question of international cooperation and exchange of information – says the announcement by the ministry.

As added, it also removes the flaws of the previous regulation and improves the mechanisms of protection of ICT systems and networks.

– A safer use of digital services and a stronger competitiveness in the market of electronic services are secured and conditions for attracting investments in the ICT sector are created. In addition to that, the development of a framework for the certification of ICT products, processes and services will contribute to improving security standards, to the benefit of individuals and organizations, but also the economy and state institutions – it is pointed out in the ministry’s announcement.
