Statistical Office: In Serbia in May this year 2,461 building permits issued, 2.4% more than in May 2023

In May 2024, the number of 2,461 building permits was issued, presenting the increase of 2.4% when compared to May 2023, announced the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia. Out of the total number of permits issued in May 2024, 81.8% related to buildings, and 18.2% to civil engineering constructions.

As said, when only buildings are concerned, 78.5% of permits related to residential buildings, and 21.5% to non–residential ones, while regarding civil engineering constructions the largest number related to pipelines, communication and electric power lines (67.4%).

According to the permits issued in May 2024 in the Republic of Serbia, the construction of 2,468 dwellings with average useful floor space of 76.9 m2 was recorded.

Out of the total number of dwellings in new residential buildings, 15.4% of dwellings will be built in single-dwelling buildings, with average useful floor space of 153.3 m², and 82.2% of dwellings will be in buildings with three and more dwellings, with significantly smaller average useful floor space of 61.1 m².

According to the Statistical Office, the anticipated value of new construction works in May 2024 amounted to 83.1% of the totally anticipated value of works. Observed by areas, the greatest construction activity is expected in Južnobačka oblast, 22.3% of the anticipated value of new construction works, followed by Mačvanska oblast, 17.4%, Beogradska oblast, 14.3%, Sremska oblast 9.9%, and Šumadijska oblast 6.0%, while the shares of other areas were up to 4.1%.
