(Youth Settlement)

The next construction season in Palic is expected to start with the Youth settlement complex. Namely, reconstruction and additional construction of the settlement located next to the Omladinsko Lake (Youth Lake) is in the pipeline.

The complex should be constructed as a modern students’ rest house with all necessary facilities in line with the highest European standards. The Youth Settlement complex should offer active rest outdoor, sports competitions, universities’ competition, and outdoor educational programs.

PC Bureau for city planning of Subotica was responsible for the urban design which won the third place in the category of urban plans at this year’s Fair of Urbanism in Nis.

Petar Andric, one of the authors of the projects, says in his interview for eKapija that there are accommodation capacities and a restaurant near the lake but that the space is not fully exploited.

- This urban project comprises reconstruction of the overall complex of Youth settlement. In the part of the complex which is closest to the lake, it is planned to demolish two existing facilities which are quite ruined and to construct sports and recreation facilities instead. Reconstruction and superstructure of the existing restaurant is planned – our collocutor says.

According to the project, demolition of five facilities and reconstruction and superstructure of four pavilions with accommodation facilities, construction of six new pavilions with accommodation facilities, headquarters buildings, social and recreational facilities, additional facility with a garage are planned in the southeast part of the complex.

Andric says that sports courts, outdoor amphitheatre and an open pavilion for summer classrooms should be built in the next construction stages.

Students’ rest houses and rehabilitation houses of Serbia are in charge of managing this project. However, they told us to call after New Year’s celebration for the information on construction deadlines and investment amount because no one authorized was present at the institution.

As local Subotica media announces, Belgrade-based Modular started extensive construction and reconstruction works on this settlement. A total of RSD 139 mil was set aside for the first, out of five, stage and the funds were provided from the European Bank for Rehabilitation and loan of Development loan.

Omladinsko Lake

Omladinsko Lake is a small lake located at some 50 m far from the Palic Lake, divided by a part of the land called Kanjiski put. It got its name after facilities constructed during the youth work actions. The original name of the Omladinsko Lake was Krvavo Lake (Bloody Lake) which got its name after red algae which usually appear over the summer and give a specific color to this lake.
