Preparation of project documentation for Slobodna Zona Jug logistics center

A project focused on the intermodal logistics center Slobodna Zona Jug (Free Zone Jug) has been presented in the City Hall of Nis, where the commencement of preparation of a project and technical documentation for that facility has been announced too. This project, designed and submitted by the Regional Development Association JUG, has been approved by the Municipal Infrastructure Support Program (MISP). The project manager is the City of Nis, while the user is Slobodna Zona Jug.

The project involves the adaptation of the area to enable the construction of an intermodal logistics center (construction of an auxiliary runway for cargo airplanes, adaptation of railway tracks to fit the needs of the cargo center, as well as adaptation of the road access) and the construction of a 20,000 square meter building, which will include 17,000 square meters of storage space and 3,000 square meters of office space that will be placed at the disposal of Slobodna Zona Jug's tenants. The project documentation will be completed until the year's end, after which a grant for the project will be sought from the IPA funds.

As Mayor Milos Simonovic pointed out, the completion of aforementioned documentation is a precondition to a EUR 15 million grant for the construction of a logistics center, which represents an opportunity to create new jobs and launch new logistic services for all companies and firms operating in our region, as well as for those yet to come.

He reminded that the City of Nis was preparing another project under the same program, the one involving the construction of a landfill, which was very important because the City of Nis would own that landfill and make all decisions regarding its use.
