The Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning said in a statement on Wednesday that the first buildings with about 500 apartments on the site of Stepa Stepanovic barracks in Vozdovac would be ready for tenants in May, meaning that the first tenants would get a key to their apartment as early as next month.

The statement reads that the Building Directorate of Serbia has so far sold over 1,800 out of 2,500 currently available apartments in that location.

Works on this building site commenced January 2011, and the offer will soon include another 1,000 new apartments of various structures and sizes.

The price per square meter ranges between 1,250 and 1,290 euros, inclusive of VAT.

A residential and business complex with 4,616 apartments is under construction on the site of Stepa Stepanovic barracks in Vozdovac, spanning 42 hectares.

The project investor is the Building Directorate of Serbia. Certain number of apartments will be allotted to the members of the Army of Serbia to solve their housing problems.

A complete infrastructure (about 9.5 km of new roads), parking lots for about 3,300 cars, green areas, playgrounds and other public facilities will all be a part of a modern residential complex, where over 13,000 people will live.

More than 80 construction companies employing approximately 10,000 workers have been engaged in the project so far, while another 30,000 workers or so will be working directly or indirectly on its completion.
