Traditionally good cooperation between the cities of Vienna and Belgrade resumes with the organization and presentation of exhibition "Residential Development in Vienna - Inventive, Social, Environmental" and workshop "Social and Modern - Residential Development in Vienna".

The exhibition, which is open for public, will be installed in the Museum of Applied Arts, 18 Vuka Karadžića Street, between September 9 and 26.

This exhibition drew exceptional attention of the public at last year's biennial in Venice because it offers a comprehensive insight into residential development in Vienna since the 1920's until today. The projects from the domain of public-subsidized residential development will be presented at the exhibition, as well as their fitting into current city development projects.

The exhibition is accompanied by workshop "Social and Modern - Residential Development in Vienna", which will be held on September 10th in hotel "Palas". On that occasion, the delegation of the city of Vienna will present the models of subsidized residential development in Vienna in the period between 1920's and today, as well as architectural, social and environmental aspects of such development. New standards are being introduced in this field, and all projects are evaluated by an interdisciplinary jury based on four groups of criteria: social sustainability, architecture, ecology and economy. The workshop will also deal with the models of private/public partnership, which have given excellent results in field of subsidized residential development in the countries in transition and the developed countries of Europe. The representatives of the profession, city administration, and developers from this field of civil engineering, will have the opportunity to meet their colleagues and discuss various models and aspects of non-profitable residence whose promotion in Serbia is in progress.

The Study on social residence is a part of recently made Strategy for spatial development of Republic of Serbia. The City Planning Institute of Belgrade is preparing the extension of this study, which is focused on Belgrade, previous experiences, and possibilities of organization of modern models of non-profitable residence. On the other hand, the announcement of construction of large number of apartments at favorable price by the Republic Administration is the second reason why special attention should be paid to studying Vienna's successful practice in that domain.

Organization of the exhibition and the workshop in Belgrade is enabled by the city administration of Vienna. The exhibition will be opened on September 9th, at 7 PM, by the Deputy Mayor and member of the City Government of Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig, who is in charge of residence, residential development and refurbishment of the city, while the City Planning Institute of Belgrade coordinates and runs the activities for preparation of the exhibition and the workshop on behalf of the city of Belgrade.
