Preparations for construction of Belgrade Plaza shopping center in progress - Completion of project expected in H1 2017

After a building permit was issued for the construction of shopping center in Visnjicka Street this spring, preparatory works on the building lot commenced in August. Since it is the former site of Sport Star`s sports equipment factory in Karaburma, the land was occupied by the facilities of this company, so the first step was to clear the ground and remove these buildings. Most of the removed facilities were temporary in nature, but there is also one big building on this site whose removal is still underway.

In the period between August and late October, more than 20 facilities were removed from this land, most of which were temporary prefabricated shacks. Ongoing demolition of the factory building is a bit bigger challenge because it is a concrete structure with about 13,000 square meters of gross space. This demolition work is expected to be finished in December 2015.

The next month (November) will see the start of the second phase which includes excavation, pile driving and construction of retaining structure. In parallel, the General Contractor tender package is issued, inviting local and international contractors to participate in the tender, while superstructure works are supposed to commence early next year. Completion of the project is expected in the first half of 2017.
