Calzedonia opens factory in Subotica – 2,000 jobs

Today in Subotica, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić opened a factory for Gordon, part of the Calzedonia group, saying that Serbia will offer the Italian company the best conditions in the region. He encouraged the company president Sandro Veronese to consider hiring 3,000 rather than the announced 2,000 workers.
The Italian group already has a factory in Sombor that employs 2,000 people and has announced the impending opening of two new factories in Ruma and Apatin that will provide 2,000 more jobs.
“Nowhere will you find better people, workers, energy or industriousness, so think about increasing that number as far as 3,000 workers”, said Vučić.
The Prime Minister also remarked that from Serbia, companies can export to the European Union, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Belorussia.... and that this will continue in the future.
He said that the credit for new investment should go to the town of Subotica, but also to the Serbian Government, and that he expects the young workers engaged there to be hard-working, industrious and honest.
“I am sure that with the reforms we will carry out, Serbia can in two years be a far better place to live and can beat the competition in every way”, said Vučić.
The factory opening was also attended by the Italian ambassador to Serbia Guiseppe Manzo, Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlović and representatives of the local government.
A memorandum of understanding was signed in November 2011 with the Italian investor Calzedonia, that produces children's, women's and men's socks, swimwear and underwear under the brands Calzedonia, Intimissimi, Falconeri and Tezenis.
For this purpose Calzedonia founded the subsidiary Gordon Ltd, which began in November 2011 to produce Intimissimi women's shirts in a newly-built production hall of 12,000 square metres in the Mali Bajmok industrial zone.
