"Mitros" and "Mlekara" in Sremska Mitrovica to start production

The Sremska Mitrovica slaughterhouse SL Mitros will soon have a new owner, the Austrian company Gerlinger, reports Novosti. Sremska Mlekara may also renew production this year, Nectar from Bačka Palanka has shown an interest.
According to the plans of the prospective producers, these two production plants will create 400 new jobs, but there will also be plenty of work in animal husbandry in the Srem region, both for breeders and milk producers.
Gerlinger has already submitted an offer for Mitros to the Commercial Court in Belgrade that is carrying out a bankruptcy procedure. The Austrians want to renew production as soon as possible, engaging 350 workers from the start, processing a thousand pigs a week.
“Gerlinger is a reliable partner and I believe that Mitros will soon start processing meat and producing meat products”, says Branislav Nedimović, Mayor of Sremska Mitrovica. “The Austrians would like to buy Mitros as a trade mark and start production immediately. This would mean a lot to the city and to the entire Srem region. It would result in an increased volume of pig breeding, engaging more people in rural areas. Gerlinger's offer is already in the Commercial Court and we expect the process to be completed and the buyer to become the new official owner.”
In parallel with the revival of production in Mitros, Sremska Mlekara has undergone all the stages of privatisation and bankruptcy and a revitalisation is pending. Nectar from Bačka Palanka is interested in this dairy plant and ready to re-launch production with 40 employees. Besides processing it will increase the number of dairy cows in Srem to provide “raw material at home” for the dairy plant, reducing the cost of transporting fresh milk from distant producers.
