Serbia’s public debt totals EUR 20,507 billion in March 2014

At the end of March, Serbia’s public debt totaled EUR 20,507 billion which is 62,3% of gross domestic product (GDP), the Ministry of Finance has announced today.

March saw public debt increase for EUR 109 mil.

Direct liabilities of the stated totaled 17,705 billion and indirect totaled EUR 2,802 billion.

At the end of 2013, Serbia’s public debt totaled EUR 20,089 billion, i.e. 61,2% GDP.

At the end of 2000, public debt was EUR 14,167 billion which was 169,3% GDP. Since then, the lowest public debt was in 2008 with EUR 8,781 billion, i.e. 29,2% GDP.

The Law on budget system, the public debt share in GDP is limited to 45%.
