Implementation of a twinning plant protection project totaling EUR 2.5 million has commenced in Serbia. Its aim is to improve the protection of people's health and the environment from possible risks related to the use of pesticides.
This project, which will take 24 months to complete, calls for the implementation of sustainable application of plant protection products and the establishment of regular technical inspection of devices for applying pesticides, the representatives of the governments of Serbia and Italy and the EU Delegation to Serbia announced Wednesday.
Ferenc Bagi, the director of the Plant Protection Administration of the Serbian Agriculture Ministry, stated that the Serbian government was strongly committed to European integration that also requires full alignment of domestic plant protection regulations with those in effect in the European Union.
Bagi said that the project was being financed by the EU from IPA funds through the EU Delegation to Serbia.
