Record year of Belgrade-based airport Nikola Tesla



In 2013, the Nikola Tesla airport reached a record number of passengers in its history. This year, a total of 3.540.000 passengers used the services of this air harbor and this is the first time we exceeded the number of passengers and an airport in Sofia. The Belgrade-based airport has as many passengers per year as Ljubljana and Zagreb together and with an arrival of the new airline, Air Serbia, traffic in 2014 can increase by 60%.
Investments to the Nikola Tesla airport this year total dozens million euros. Six new air bridges have been supplied, airplane reception platforms was expanded for 26.000 square meters.
Transit area is also under reconstruction in stages, restaurants, cafes, shops and space for free shop stores increases.. In th fourth stage, the second floor will be built and it will provide an airport with a capacity of eight million passengers per year.
- According to the announces flight schedule for the upcoming period, in 2014, Belgrade-based airport will generate the greatest progress i.e. it will have the biggest increase in passengers’ number compared to all airports in capitals of Europe – director of the Nikola Tesla airport, Velimir Radosavljevic, says.
After a number of years, for the next year, a direct flight from Belgrade to Barcelona and Lisbon has been announced.
- The number of passengers form the Belgrade airport is on the increase. Of course, Nis does not operate for it does not have regular transport. I think there was a rise of 23% in November compared to last year and we hope the trend will continue in 2014 – the acting manager of the Directorate for the Civil air transport of Serbia, Zivanovic.
