Panasonic to exit plasma TV business

As Reuters reports, Japanese electronics giant Panasonic is going to cease the production of plasma TV's in March 2014.
The company's comment on this was very vague as it explained that it was still considering further steps and that nothing had been decided yet.
Panasonic was expected to exit the plasma TV business a long time ago, given that the first news about the possibility of it backing out of that business was published early this year, although the company then introduced a new technology ensuring the best picture.
Plasma TV's have always been a synonym for top-quality picture, while Panasonic was and still is considered the main manufacturer of these television panels.
However, plasma TV's accounted for only 6 percent of global shipments last year with LCD TV's covering the greatest portion of the market (87 percent).
