Iron Regiment in Hollywood movie - Atlantic Screen Group to shoot movie in Serbia on love between Flora Sandes and lieutenant Jovic

(Flora Sandes)
The romance between a British nurse and a Serbian lieutenant who served in the glorious Iron Regiment during the World War I will soon get to the Hollywood movie scene. Shooting of the movie "My Dear Sergeant," a love story between Flora Sandes and Janacko Jovic, produced by Atlantic Screen Group, is expected to start next fall.
In late August, Simon Faucet, British producer and multimillionaire and the president of the Atlantic Screen Group, and Secretary-General of Queen Elizabeth's Royal Guard David Simon Vandeleur (as a military consultant) were staying in Lazarevac-based Rasavil, where they presented the movie scenario. Premiere, as they said then, is expected in 2015.
As eKapija finds out, the stay of the British started with the "Along our ancestors’ roads of freedom" tour which in the meantime became a regular memorial tour offered by the Magelan agency. They toured the center of Belgrade, fortress and the Military Museum at Kalemegdan, and got more familiar with the participation of Serbia in World War I.
By the way, David Vandeleur was the military attaché in the Embassy of Great Britain in Belgrade a couple of years ago.
After numerous world movies where Serbs were in most of the cases presented as bad guys, the producer of "My Dear Sergeant" is planning to present to the world the role, contribution, sacrifice as well as courage of the Serbs in the Great War.
The truth is that a true story, action, love and history are all necessary ingredients for evoking emotions from the audience, but it takes a director and a famous actress to make the movie commercial.
As Politika recently reported, unofficially, Kate Winslet or Sophia Miles could play Flora Sandes, while Ivan Bosiljcic could play lieutenant Jovic. Directing could be entrusted to Marc Foster ("James Bond – Quantum of Solace") or to someone like Mel Gibson. The scenario will be signed by Rory Fellows and music by Tim Holier. As it was announced, the producer should be Gabriela Tana, a daughter of Den Tana, a member of the American Movie Academy.
Atlantic Group, which should pour EUR 10 mil into this project, used their stay in Belgrade to negotiate with potential partners. They are now expecting from the Serbian government guarantees and support in the project implementation such as disposal of locations, facilities and certain financial support as well. While they are waiting, they will not sit in vain but being a promotional campaign soon.
A century since the Great War
Preparations for the 100th anniversary of the World War I started Europe-wide. With a reminder that this should never happen again, the jubilee will featured various cultural and tourist programs. The French and Belgians have already prepared numerous events.
- Only Belgium has poured more than EUR 50 mil for renovation, renewal of the locality and preparation of exhibition and shows for tourists, and they are presenting their offer at world fairs – representatives at the Magelan tourist agency said.
The agency has prepared programs to introduce tourists with the role and contribution of Serbia in the World War I.

Museum of the Kolubara Battle
The 100th anniversary of the Kolubara Battle in Lazarevac will be celebrated in 2014 and if everything goes as planned, a panoramic museum dedicated to this battle between the Serbian and Austro-Hungarian armies will open. The remarkable building should be located at the center of the town on the Kolubara River.
Last spring, the Fund of the Kolubara Battle Museum was set up. It will manage the project, but we have not found out what has been done in the meantime.
