Competition Protection Commission approves takeover of Jat

The Commission for Competition Protection has announced Wednesday (September 4, 2013) that it approved concentration which will result from Etihad Airways takeover of 49% stake of Serbia airline Jat Airways.
As the Commission announced, which was published on www.kzk.org.rs, it was established that this way there will be a significant prevention, limitation and damage of competition at the market.
The Commission for Competition Protection stated Serbia was the only previous owner of Jat Airways and that in the future there will be mutual control of Etihad with 49% stake and Serbia with 51%.
It has also been announced that apart from ownership stake, Etihad will also acquire certain managing responsibilities and authorizations.
The Government of Serbia signed August 1, an agreement on the strategic partnership with Etihad which implies that the UAE-based company will become an owner of 49% stake in the Serbian airline on the basis of which Jat Airways will change its name into Air Serbia.
Etihad announced they will take over the management over the Serbian airline the moment all regulatory terms are met and the previous plan anticipated September 1.
