Microsoft to purchase Nokia?

The Microsoft corporation has recently discusses with Nokia representative the option to purchase its mobile phone business, Wall Street Journal has informed today.

According to them, the companies made a considerable progress in negotiations but still they were interrupted because parties could not agree on the final price due to the market position of Nokia which is lagging behind its competitors, Apple and Samsung.

It is not clear how much Nokia asked for its business. Last year, mobile phones production stake was more than half of the company profit reaching EUR 30,2 billion (USD 40,15 billion). Nokia’s market value at the American market exceeds USD 14 billion, the newspaper says.

Microsoft and Nokia have partnered more than two years ago after the Finish company started implementing Microsoft operational system, “windows phone” into its smart phones. Thus, the American company invested billions dollars to support Nokia with marketing and development activities.

This partnership still did not improve the Microsoft position in mobile phones business, although windows phone overtook osa blackberry and took the third place at the world smart phone market.

According to the American research company data, IDC, in Q1 this year, smart phones with the windows phone operational system made a bit more than 3% of the new smart phones offer in the world compared to some 75% with the ones with android system. Nokia is selling all 79% of devices with windows phone.

In September 2010, the former top manager of Microsoft, Stephen Elop, was appointed the chief executive with Nokia.
