Revitalization of second generator in Djerdap nearing its end - EUR 168 million rehabilitation project to result in hydroelectric power station of a size of Zvornik power plant

Second phase of revitalization of the hydro power generator no. 4 at the hydroelectric power station Djerdap 1 is nearing its end, and with the rehabilitation of all generators, which will cost EUR 168, Serbia will get another power plant of a size of the Zvornik hydroelectric power station, Djerdap 1 Director told Tanjug news agency.
As he explained, the equipment is now being installed and should be put in operation as early as mid-May.
Jokic reminded that the revitalization began 2009, adding that the servicing of the first turbine took over a year to complete.
- The funding for this EUR 168 million project is provided from a Russian loan (EUR 100 million) and from EPS' own resources (EUR 68 million) - said Jokic.
According to him, revitalization of all six generators, which should be completed within the next six year, will secure the reliability of equipment and a 10 percent higher capacity of generators at Djerdap 1.
- Once we finish the revitalization of all generators, we will get another hydroelectric power station of a size of the Zvornik power plant - said the director of our largest hydroelectric power plant.
Construction of Djerdap was completed in 1972. At that time, it was a hydroelectric power plant with the third largest capacity in the world.
Djerdap generates a fifth of all the electricity produced in Serbia, with about 20 million kWh of electric energy generated per day.
