Serbia to open embassy in UAE

The decision was made at the proposal of Minister Ivan Mrkic, since Serbia and the UAE established diplomatic relations on 21 March 2007.
The UAE is a federation of seven emirates, formed in 1971 with the uniting of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah, Fujairah, Ajman and Umm al-Qaiwain. The head of the state is President, who is also the ruler of Abu Dhabi.
The decision to open an embassy of Serbia in the UAE is the result of a shared vision of Belgrade and Abu Dhabi on the need to strengthen mutual ties, political and, especially, economic cooperation.
Serbia and the UAE have recognized the potential for the development of economic relations and important investment projects are in the pipeline, particularly in the area of the agriculture and food industries, as well as in military and economic cooperation.
So far, diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Abu Dhabi have been functioning on a non-residential basis, through the Serbian embassy in Cairo and the UAE embassy in Rome, it is added in the statement.
