Instead of Sofia-Niš highway, construction of Sofia-Predejane highway that would cost Serbia and Bulgaria total of 400m EUR

The Bulgarians are suggesting that, instead of expensive Sofia - Niš highway, for which the investors can not be found for years, shorter highway, from Sofia to Predejane, should be built.
The highway would be about 90 kilometers long, 20 km of which would be on the territory of Serbia. That highway would directly connect pan-European corridors 10 and 8.
The idea of construction of Sofia - Predejane highway has been launched recently by the group of experts and civil organizations and it has been announced for the first time by the National center for territorial development, which operates as a part of the Ministry of Regional Development of Bulgarian Government, at the meeting organized by the Southeast Europe Stability Pact.
According to this project, both highway and railway tracks would be built on the route from Sofia to Predejane. The route would connect Sofia, Breznik and Trn in Bulgaria with Strazimirovci and Predajane in Serbia. The road would go beneath Gramada mountain or it would bypass it from the north. The highway would connect to Belgrade - Skopje - Salonika highway near Predejane.
There are certain analyses that show that the construction of Sofia - Predejane highway would cost only 400m EUR.
The existing roads that connect Sofia with Niš and Skopje would be still used, but mainly by local population.
