(at the meeting)
Investors from Hong Kong, representatives of the company Johnson Electric, which is engaged in the production of small electric motors and other electrical components for the automotive and other industries, are interested in building a plant in Sombor, it was announced on the official website of the city.
Investors from Hong Kong said that the company's annual turnover amounted to USD 2.2 billion, that it employed about 40,000 workers in 23 countries, as well as that Johnson Electric had seven factories in Europe.
- We want to build an electric motor plant in Serbia as well. It would be a greenfield investment, and we require a five-hectare land lot to build a production facility spanning 10 to 15 thousand square meters. For start, we would hire between 1,500 and 2,000 workers, but their number would be increased after five years of operations - said the representatives of Jonson Electric.
According to their words, most workers would be primary school graduates - about 1,200 of them, then there would be 200 technicians, between 100 and 150 engineers and around 150 administrative workers.
Chairperson of the City Assembly MA Sinisa Lazic said that "Sombor is a good place for this kind of talks."
- We have a location completely equipped with infrastructure and a secondary technical school with about 1,000 students. Sombor used to be the city of the mechanical industry, but many people lost their job in the transition period, so that those with experience could find a job at the future plant. We also have a location that we are ready to allot for free if they decide to build a plant in Sombor – Lazic said and added that Sombor was bordering two countries and was 45 kilometers away from the border.
