Cloud computing leader in Serbia - VMware opens office in Belgrade

After many years of standstill, the Serbian IT market has started opening to global trends, which has affected VMware's decision to invest in the market and open an office in Belgrade, that company announced in a release.
- We've decided to make this investment because we saw the potential and local users' need for our technology, and we hope that our office in Belgrade will help us strengthen business relations and expand the partner network in the market - says Aleksandra Verhoeve, regional manager for east Europe at VMware.
The idea of concentrating computing capacity on a smaller number of data centers, which would be available always and at any place to all computer users, is called cloud computing. Cloud computing represents a delivery of remote IT resources and servers via internet, phone or private network. Virtualization is a basis in such environment because in most cases a user absolutely does not need to know details about the infrastructure and technology providing a service, while the number of servers in use is smaller, the system administration is easier, electricity consumption is reduced and the security of a computer system is improved.
- Virtualization is fundamental for cloud computing, and VMware is a leader in that domain, holding a share of over 80% in the global market. Cloud computing is a reality because we see that more than 30 percent of all IT budgets in Europe is earmarked for cloud computing, mainly because traditional IT cannot efficiently support the complexity of modern operations any more - says Aleksandra Verhoeve.
She adds that the company VMware has come a long way from a company focused on virtualization to a leader with a broad and complex offer in the field of cloud computing. Thanks to its business strategy, VMware did not feel any negative effects of the economic crisis and continued to increase its revenues by 25 to 30 percent annually.
