Zrenjanin is the first city in Serbia to sign a land purchase agreement with the German discount chain Lidl, which will have its first facility in Serbia built on it, the city management confirmed to Blic daily.

Representatives of this German company signed an agreement late last week with Zrenjanin Mayor Dr. Mileta Mihajlov to buy a land near the main bus station in that city. The company plans to build a 2,000-square-meter supermarket in that location and invest EUR 1.5 million in it. This facility should employ about 25 workers.

Mileta Mihajlov, the mayor of Zrenjanin, says that the arrival of Lidl in this city is a proof that Zrenjanin has a future.

- This is a proof that we have an efficient and quick administration that immediately reacted on the investor's offer - says Mihajlov.

Those familiar with Lidl's operations claim that the company is not going to open facilities sporadically because its business policy is such that they first buy and equip locations and then open a series of stores almost at the same time. As Blic learns, there should be 22 such locations in Serbia. Among the cities that were earlier mentioned as definite locations for the construction of Lidl's facilities are Novi Sad and Valjevo.
