Green permit for construction of Gruza Corridor requested

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has announced that the PE Roads of Serbia, as the carrier of the project, has submitted the Request for Approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study for the Project of Phase-Based Construction of IB-Grade Expressway from Kragujevac to the Connection with IA-A5-Grade State Road (E761) in Mrcajevci (Gruza Corridor).

The request was filed on the last day of March, and the interested public can now review the Study and submit potential complaints and opinions. A public discussion and presentation is scheduled for June 3. Let us remind that, on the expressway route, 36 km long, which is planned as the connection of Kragujevac with the Morava Corridor in four lanes, the construction of four interchanges, a total of 30 bridge structures, 24 underpasses and overpasses, as well as the construction of the Vuckovica Tunnel, 670 m long, not far from Knic, is planned.

According to the Public Procurement Plant of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure for 2024, the procurement of the services of design and works on the construction of the Kragujevac-Mrcajevci expressway (Gruza Corridor) and the bypass route around Svilajnac is estimated at close to RSD 68.9 billion (around EUR 590 million).

The opening of the tender, according to the plan from February 2024, signed by the now former minister Goran Vesic, was planned for the second quarter of last year.

Also, according to this document, the Gruza Corridor should be completed by 2028.

At the end of December last year, the PE Roads of Serbia published the tender for the preparation of the project for the construction permit for the Gruza Corridor.

This tender, which was also extended once, was stopped in April with the explanation that “there are provable reasons due to which the need of the procuring entity for said procurement has stopped, due to which it will not be repeated within the same budget year, that is, in the next six months.”

By the way, the construction of this fast route was announced back in 2019 by the former competent minister Zorana Mihajlovic, who said at the time that the investment would cost EUR 150 million and that the construction of the road would begin in 2020.
