The management of the City of Belgrade entered into direct contact with the Romanian Astra plant from Arad, regarding the announced purchase of 100 new trams, according to the Center for Local Self-Government.

The estimated value of this procurement is RSD 25 billion, and the deadline for submitting bids has been moved to May 5. These are the so-called short trams, and financing is planned from loans, not by means of leasing as envisaged for the procurement of 300 new buses.

The Center for Local Self-Government states that it is of key importance that the tram procurement job is awarded in an open and transparent public tender, and not by means of direct negotiations and agreements.

- We remind you that in Serbia, in Kragujevac, there is a world-renowned Siemens tram brand, and that Sarajevo also bought premium Stadler trams, through a European Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan. We advocate for Belgrade to get trams from some of the premium brands, because it is a key procurement for GSP and an investment which will determine the quality of public transport for decades to come. The Center for Local Self-Government will carefully monitor the tender for the procurement of 100 trams and 300 new buses and inform the public about everything in a timely manner - it is stated in the CLS press release.
