The Bulgarian private investment company BlackPeak Capital entered Serbia by investing in the local chain of special cafes Kafeterija, the two companies announced.

The funding will help the expansion of Kafeterija in Southeastern Europe both through organic growth and through strategic acquisitions, the companies state in their press release, without disclosing the investment size, SeeNews reported.

With this investment, Kafeterija plans to expand to 150 stores throughout Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary and to achieve an annual turnover of EUR 70 million (USD 75.6 million) over the next five years, said Zoran Stanojević, co-founder and general manager of Kafeterija.

- This is a crucial moment, not just an acknowledgment of what we have achieved so far, but a strategic step towards shaping the future of the coffee industry in the region - Stanojević stated.

The Kafeterija with headquarters in Belgrade was founded in 2014 by Stanojević and Serbian entrepreneur Marko Vukomanović. It operates at 53 locations in Serbia and Montenegro. In 2023, the cafeteria generated business income of RSD 1.74 billion (USD 16 million/EUR 14.8 million) and net profit of RSD 70 million, according to the most recent annual financial report.

Established in 2014, BlackPeak Capital focuses on equity investments ranging from 5 to 15 million euros in small and medium-sized companies which are spreading rapidly throughout Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia.

In June 2022 BlackPeak Capital completed the final closing of its second fund, Southeast Europe Growth Equity Fund, raising EUR 126 million.

The Fund is supported by the European Investment Fund of the European Union within the program Equity Facility for Growth, Invest BG, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,
International finance corporations and other European private institutional investors.
