Government of Serbia sends letter to US administration asking for postponement of sanctions on NIS

The Government of Serbia has sent a letter to the US administration in which it supports the request of Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS) for a new postponement of the implementation of the sanctions that the United States of America announced due to the Russian ownership in that company, reports RTS.

Washington has already prolonged the introduction of sanctions on NIS for a month, and the deadline expires on Friday, March 28, at midnight, that is, due to the time difference, on Saturday, March 29, at 6 AM.

The minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, presided within the government over the session of the Work Group for the Monitoring of the Activities of the US Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), at which it was decided to support the request of NIS for a new postponement of the sanctions.


The director of Srbijagas, Dusan Bajatovic, also said that the lawyers had requested OFAC to prolong the introduction of sanctions on NIS, which have already been postponed for a month.
