IAEA ready to support Serbian institutions in building capacities and improving nuclear knowledge

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is ready to provide all the necessary support to Serbian institutions in their efforts toward the building of national capacities and improving the nuclear knowledge for the development of energy, the deputy director general of IAEA, Hua Liu, notified the Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate (SRBATOM) through official channels.

The help of IAEA will be realized in various related fields, through the current regional and interregional projects of technical support, among which are: the strengthening of the capacities of education institutions for a sustainable use of nuclear technology, establishing and improving a national legal framework, supporting countries which are introducing or expanding nuclear energy programs in order to develop a national infrastructure for a safe implementation of the nuclear energy program, the directorate says in its announcement.

In his response to the proposition for the strengthening of cooperation between Serbia and IAEA, which SRBATOM sent in December last year, Hua Liu added that, in addition to support through regional and interregional projects, IAEA saw the development of a national project of technical support as an important instrument in providing a precise and wide support to the development of a nuclear energy program.
