The oldest daily newspaper in the Balkans, Politika, will be printed in another printing house from March, because Politika’s printing house in Krnjaca is to be shut down, some employees of the company Politika novine i magazini announced on social networks.

According to unofficial information, around 60 employees will lose their jobs at the printing house.

The question that arises is in what format will the oldest daily in this area be published in the future, that is, will the closing of Politika’s printing house cause a permanent change in the recognizable format of this daily newspaper, which has been published in two sections for decades?

While some employees indicate that, according to the information they received, the format will not be changed, another part indicates that a change of format is imminent because the printing press where Politika will be printed in the future does not support its current format. As we have learned, it should be the printing house where dailies such as Kurir and Blic are currently printed. What will change, as we learn, will be the kind of paper on which Politika will be printed in the future, as well as the deadlines for the release of the first edition.

Another question that this news raises is what will be the fate of the land and space in Krnjaca where the printing house has been located for years. For now, there is no official information about it either, but two possible scenarios have been mentioned for a long time. According to one, the closing of the printing house creates the conditions for hectares of land in Krnjaca to be “freed up” for the commercial construction of thousands of square meters, while on the other hand, the idea to, after selling Vecernje novosti and 50% of Politika NIM (which has been bought by Boban Rajic, i.e. the company Media 026), move the journalists and editorial offices of these two media to Krnjaca and to use their premises in the city center for other purposes has been mentioned for some time now. For now, all this is at the level of speculation and unofficial information.

However, we should recall that after the recent purchase of the Politika building, which this media company once lost due to outstanding debts to the bank, Boban Rajic, whose company Media 026 bought 50% of ownership in Politika about two years ago, announced that the building at 1 Politika Square would be renovated and that it would continue to be the home of Politika’s journalists and editorial staff.

According to unofficial information, the idea is that after the renovation, for which it is not known when it will start, all Politika’s newsrooms will be moved to the first floor of the building at 1 Politika Square.
