Sid ready to develop tourism and economy - Municipality equips new 123-hectare industrial zone

(Bosut Lake)
In Erdevik near Sid, the first vine was planted in 276 B.C., at the time of Emperor Prob. Since that time until today, suitable and gentle climate on Fruska Gora has been stimulating the development of wine and the habit of enjoying wine. The wine cellar Podrum Erdevik, which was built by Count Livije Odeskaski in 1826, is still in operation. Investments and networking with other forms of tourism could help continue a long tradition of viticulture in an even better way. In addition to wine tourism, people in Sid also believe they could use the natural potentials of this area to develop sports and recreational tourism.
- Lakes in our municipality, on the territory of the National Park Fruska Gora, represent a great potential for the development of tourism, being only the basis for the development of various forms of tourism. There is Bruje Lake in the vicinity of Erdevicka Banja spa resort, also called Erdevicko Lake, and it is an artificial accumulation lake receiving water from the spring Kosjaca, and the water in the lake is mineral. A very significant lake is Sot, spanning 22 hectares, as well as Moharac, which is a real paradise for nature lovers. These lakes are rich in carp, bream, common rudd, grass carp, pike and other fish – Zivan Miric, an expert associate for development affairs at the municipality of Sid, lists tourist potentials of Sid in an interview for eKapija.
A wind rose, which exists on the territory of Berkasovo, on the slopes of Fruska Gora, is an important predisposition for the development of numerous tourist facilities such as recreation centers, camps, health paths, etc.
- In the location of Lipovaca, within Fruska Gora park, there is a restaurant with 350 seats and an annex with 20 rooms, which are now up for sale. These facilities could serve to potential investor as a framework for further development of the complex - says Miric.
The catering and tourist company UTP Vojvodina has advertised the sale of this complex surrounded by centennial oaks at the picnic grounds Lipovaca.
In addition to various events that are organized every year in this area, people at the Municipality of Sid believe they could also organize Days of Wine in Erdevik and Days of Fishing and Days of Sports at lakes in Sid.
Biomass energy projects
Sid plans to apply with the Vukovar-Srijem County for a grant from the IPA funds for the construction of a power station that would use biomass to generate energy. That facility would simultaneously generate both electricity and heating energy. By the way, 140,000 tonnes of biomass can be produced in the Sid region every year.
Three thermal springs
Adasevci have three thermal springs producing 10 liters of water per second. According to the words of Miroslav Janjic, director of the Tourism Organization of Sid, the results of water analyses point to great possibilities.
(Fruska Gora)
Thanks to its characteristics, this water can be used to heat the soil, breed fish and spawn, produce biogas, heat farms and greenhouses, grow mushrooms...- Only one out of these three thermal springs is situated on a private property. A valuable source of drinking water has also been discovered in the village of Jameni, with the capacity big enough to supply whole Srem with water for over a century. That would be especially good for the citizens of Sremska Mitrovic who now drink the water from the Sava river - says Janjic.
How to develop agri-eco tourism
The municipality of Sid also plans to apply for a grant from the EU IPA funds for agri-eco tourism, that is, the production of healthy food and its use for tourist purposes.
Sid has recently hosted the first international meeting of tourist organizations, of which aim is to make it possible for Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina to apply for grants from the EU IPA funds. The holder of this serious project in Serbia is Zasavica, while Sid, Sremska Mitrovica and Ruma are partners, whereas the project holder in Bosnia-Herzegovina is Tuzla.
(a goat farm in Kukujevci)
What may give an impulse to other producers of healthy food is the following: a goat farm in Kukujevci, which already offers goat cheese and other products, Vukmanovic farm in Kukujevci, Hovan farm in Ljuba, which offers carp and eco vegetables, and Misa Gicanov from Adasevci who offers honey.- The Porec region would consume all food produced in Srem. The transfer of their experience to our region, which has greater potentials for the production of healthy food, represents the basis of future cooperation. Sid, Ruma and Sremska Mitrovica should gather at least hundred producers of healthy food in the following period - Janjic announces.
We can expect over 50 people in the municipality of Sid to be engaged in the production of healthy food in one year.
New 123-hectare industrial zone to be ready for investors in 2012
An industrial zone in Sid, spanning 123 hectares, should be finished next year. It is the complex Adasevci, situated next to Corridor X and the Sid-Bijenjina railway, only few kilometers away from the border with Croatia.
(Erdevik)
- We plan to equip this 123-hectare industrial zone with infrastructure in early 2012. We expect foreign investors in this zone, which is also very interesting to Slovenians - Bogdan Travica, manager of the Department for Economy and Development of Sid, says for our web portal.
As it was earlier announced by Sid Mayor Natasa Cvjetkovic, the investors who invest over EUR 3 million and hire certain number of workers will be freed from paying and local taxes. She also said that negotiations with certain investors from Germany, Italy and Slovenia were underway.
The other industrial zone, spanning 28.10 ha, is in Erdevik and is situated alongside the national second-class route No. 106. The third such zone is the industrial zone Blok 34 – Vasariste (Block 34 - Fair Grounds) in the vicinity of the border crossing Sid–Tovarnik, that is, the regional road R-103. This 3-hectare zone is about 750 meters away from the city center and about 4 km away from the border with Croatia. The industrial zone Hempro is a private property. It is located in the vicinity of the railroad and the main railway station. It is about 1.5 km away from the city center, 5.5 km away from the border with Croatia, and it spans 3.5 hectares.
