First plan for rail Morava Corridor published – From Stalac to Kraljevo by train at 120 km/h, reconstruction and construction of new stations and removal of 42 rail crossings planned too

The Agency for Spatial and Urban Planning has put up for public inspection the draft Spatial Plan of the Special-Purpose Area for the infrastructure corridor of the Stalac-Kraljevo railroad, including the Report on the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment.

The plan envisages the modernization of the one-track railroad for passenger and cargo traffic, which will enable speeds up to 120 km/h along the 72-km section.

The existing state of the Stalac-Kraljevo section of the regional railroad, around 72 kilometers long, is characterized by a non-electrified one-track route designed for speeds of up to 60 km/h on the Stalac-Krusevac subsection and 90 km/h on the Krusevac-Kraljevo subsection.

However, due to the long exploitation time, the speed is considerably reduced to only 30 km/h on the section between Stalac and Krusevac and 25 km/h between Krusevac and Kraljevo, whereas the current operating speed does not exceed 40 km/h. On eight critical points, the speed is further limited to 20 km/h for safety reasons.

There are no tunnels on this section, and the existing bridges, whose initial project dates back to 1910 for the narrow track were adapted for the normal track in the 1950s.
