The road section Krusevac-Trstenik-Vrnjacka Banja on the Morava Corridor, 30 kilometers long, was opened yesterday, and the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced that the citizens would be able to use it from 9 AM the next day (Monday, December 23).

He told the press that the majority of the Morava Corridor would be built by the end of the next year and added that another 10 to 12 kilometers would remain, which would be completed during 2026.

Vucic said that the preparations for the construction of the fast route Kraljevo-Usce-Raska-Novi Pazar would begin not long after and that that road would enable the development of religious tourism.

He said that the works on the fast route Sabac-Loznica had been completed and that he hoped that that road would be put into operation by the New Year.

The Morava Corridor is 112 kilometers long and the construction of the entire highway, that is, from Vrnjacka Banja to Adrani, should be completed by the end of 2025.

The Government of Serbia has signed the commercial contract on the construction of the Morava Corridor, worth EUR 745 million, with the American-Turkish consortium Bechtel-Enka, and additional works and direct and indirect material costs of 20% are envisaged.

The construction of the Morava Corridor began five years ago, and it connects places in which around 500,000 people live – Kraljevo, Krusevac, Vrnjacka Banja and Trstenik.

The Morava Corridor consists of three sections: Pojate-Krusevac, 27.83 kilometers long, Krusevac-Adrani, 53.88 kilometers long, and Adrani-Mrcajevci-Preljina, 30.66 kilometers long.

That is the widest and the first digital highway in Serbia, because optical cables and digital equipment which will enable free wireless internet and the most moder system of traffic control will be install along its route. It is designed for a speed of up to 130 kilometers per hour and will have 11 interchanges, 71 bridges, 23 overpasses, five underpasses and 31 culverts.

Until now, 28 kilometers of the corridor had been opened to traffic, that is, sections from Pojate to Makresane and from Makresane to Kosevi near Krusevac.
