The ceremony of handing over the Certificate and signing the Agreement on the management of the block was attended by the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, and the ambassador of China to Serbia, Li Ming.
Djedovic Handanovic pointed out that it was a historic day for the Serbian electrical energy system, because the new thermal power plant Kostolac B3, with a power of 350 megawatts, had become part of it.
She pointed out that it had been nearly 35 years from the last big energy capacity that Serbia had built and added that new projects and investments would follow, which would create the conditions for Serbia to have enough electrical energy from its own sources.
According to her, the new power plant will provide close to 5% of the total electrical energy in Serbia, making the energy system more secure at the time when energy is the question number one for every country, especially in Europe and our region.
The minister said that the modern power plant would secure not just reliable production of electrical energy, but also the highest environmental standards for this form of energy production.
Djedovic Handanovic said that there had been many challenges from the completion of all the works, the carrying out of the tests and guarantee tests, to the handing over of said certificate and expressed her gratitude to everybody who had contributed to that process.
The project of the construction of the thermal block was realized based on the interstate agreement of Serbia and China.
The ambassador of China said that the employees in CMEC had adhered to the principles of science and precision, with full cooperation with the Serbian side, although the period of the construction had been challenging.
He noted that, in the preceding few years, the economy of Serbia had been developing in a stable manner and that the demands for energy were constantly increasing.
According to his estimate, this project plays an important role, not just in increasing the energy security of Serbia, but also as a new example of the friendly cooperation of China and Serbia.
– We want to improve the energy cooperation with Serbia in the future as well, as well as to contribute to building a community with a joint future of the two countries – said the ambassador.
The construction of the new block, along with the expansion of the capacities of the Drmno mine, is worth USD 715.6 million.
The most modern equipment and technology, produced in 130 companies from China, Germany, Serbia and other countries, makes the new block highly efficient.
