Ministry of Health: Pilot testing of eBolovanje system in early 2025

The adviser for digitization at the Ministry of Health of Serbia, Nikola Radoman, has stated that the pilot testing of the eBolovanje (Electronic Sick Leave) system, which entails informing the employer about taking a sick leave and returning from it electronically, should begin at the beginning of the first quarter of 2025.

For today’s issue of the Kurir daily, Radoman said that patients would go to health institutions when control checks needed to be done and when a decision needed to be made whether the sick leave needed to be extended or ended.

As he added, through that system, the information and the necessary documentation about the sick leave will be available to the employer, which means that the employees will no longer have to bring doctor’s notices to the employer.

– A sick leave case, if necessary, is sent electronically for the medical committee to examine it along with the accompanying documentation. If there is a full documentation in an electronic form, the patient does not have to bring paper documentation along, and in most cases, they don’t have to physically attend the medical committee meeting, except when the committee or the special characteristics of the committee’s decision call for it – said Radoman.

He also said that they were working on connecting electronic patients’ records into a network, that is, on enabling the doctors from one institution to view the medical record of a patient treated at some other institution.

– This enables the obvious benefit which is reflected in quicker access to all-encompassing medical data of the patients, and with that, the accelerated and facilitated work of the doctors, as well as the improvement of the process of prevention and diagnostics and, consequently, a more efficient healthcare and protection of an individual – said Radoman.
