In addition to new basketball center and reconstruction of Arena, renovation of Pionir Hall planned too – Sports Hall in New Belgrade might also be expanded

The president of the Basketball Association of Serbia, Nebojsa Covic, said on RTS that, at the end of 2027, a new basketball center should be built.

Talking about the meeting that he and the head coach of the Serbia men's national team, Svetislav Pesic, had with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, he pointed out that Serbia would get a new basketball center.

– We talked to the president about the basketball center that basketball, as the most trophied Serbian sport, with all respect due to water polo, deserves. One such facility is needed, which would have a capacity of around 5,000 spectators and which would feature several training halls, a gym, a medical center and accommodation facilities. We were supported in this and Serbia should get a new sports facility – said Covic.

According to him, the plan is for the project to be realized at the end of 2027.

– We have initiated the idea of this project and it remains to be seen where things go from here. The facility is supposed to be located somewhere near EXPO, which is very good, for it to be part of the package of all those investments. We also mentioned certain matches at the meeting, but we talked about the center the most. At the end of 2027, it should be completed – added the president of the Basketball Association of Serbia.

Covic also stated that the Belgrade Arena should be renovated in parallel with that.

Finally, he noted that the capacity of the Aleksandar Nikolic Hall should be expanded as well.

– Pionir also needs to be reconstructed and even its capacity should be expanded to around 12,000 seats, which is feasible. However, it’s not just the plans, but we also need to find the money for all that, but luckily, we have found understanding from the president and the Government of Serbia – said Covic.

He added that the Ranko Zeravica Sports Hall in New Belgrade could also be turned into a bigger hall in the same location.
