By the end of next year, the construction of the fast railroad between Belgrade and Nis, which will cost EUR 2.75 billion, will “definitely” begin, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, as announced by the competent ministry. Let us remind that it was previously announced that the construction of this fast railroad would begin at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025.

The Belgrade-Nis railroad, for a speed of 200 km/h, will be 230 km long.

Serbia intends to finance the project from several sources, including the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and EU grants secured through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).

The EU Delegation to Serbia has announced the tenders for the construction of all three sections (from Belgrade-Resnik to Velika Plana, from Velika Plana to Paracin and from Paracin to Trupale) of the fast railroad for mid-2024, which eKapija has written about, but they are still not published.

Vesic said earlier that the second and third sections of that railroad would be done first, and that the works themselves would be done differently than those on the Novi Sad-Subotica railroad.

– The traffic will not be fully stopped. Instead, the works will be carried out in “windows”, like the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railroad is being built now, where there are construction works for three days, and then there’s traffic for the next three days. For the railroad from Belgrade to Nis, the European Union provided a grant of EUR 610 million, and the total value of the works is EUR 2.75 billion – Vesic said earlier.
