Bridge between Mali Zvornik and Karakaj to be repaired by year-end – Works worth around RSD 550 million

The bridge between Mali Zvornik and Karakaj might be completed by the New Year, the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, announced on his Facebook profile.

– The contractor is ready to commence the works as soon as we get an approval from the border police services of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. If we obtain the approval soon and if we are able to work unhindered, the bridge could be reconstructed by the New Year – Vesic wrote and noted that the value of the reconstruction of the bridge was RSD 550 million.

He reminded that the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure had carried out a tender several months before and selected the best bidder for the reconstruction of the Karakaj bridge and that a contract had been signed with the bidder.

Since April, the bridge has been closed for trucks weighing over five tons, due to, as said at the time, the damage noticed by the planner during an extraordinary check of the bridge.

Since then, truck traffic has been carried out through other border crossings, which, as the media have reported, is one of the problems that causes losses for both the entrepreneurs and the state.
