Construction of solar power plant in Leskovac to kick off in October 2011

The people of Leskovac have obtained a technical consent for the construction of the first solar power plant in the village of Velika Biljanica, with the capacity of 950 kilowatts, people at the City Hall confirmed for Juzne Vesti daily.
The process of selection of the most favorable bidder is underway and, if everything goes as planned, construction of the first solar power plant may kick off in OCtober, people at the Cabinet of Mayor Slobodan Kocic told Juzne Vesti.
The Ministry for Spatial Planning has provided EUR 1.5 million from the Construction Industry Support Programme for the implementation of this project, while EUR 0.5 million will be transferred from the Environment Protection Fund of the city of Leskovac.
Milorad Mladenovic, assistant to the mayor of Leskovac, points out that the plan is to install 60 panels with 4,166 photovoltaic units made of poly-crystal silicon.
By the way, implementation of the solar power plant project started last year and, as people at the Cabinet of Mayor Kocic stated recently, it draws growing attention of international organizations engaged in renewable energy sources and environment protection.According to the words of Mayor Slobodan Kocic, this solar power plant is "only one of the projects aimed at recovering Leskovac and its surroundings."
