– Considering that surrounding countries have active nuclear power plants and that the construction of new nuclear reactors has started in Hungary, the installation of the new system will also improve the system of notification about nuclear or radiological accidents – the Directorate says in its announcement.
These 33 measuring stations will be distributed so that they improve the coverage of the entire territory of Serbia, in line with the existing risks, it is added:
– The installation of new stations will improve the mechanism for a timely adoption of suitable measures for the protection of the populace and the environment from the harmful impact of the ionizing radiation.
The existing system of an early warning of nuclear or radiological accidents, which the Directorate is in charge of, was established in 2007. So far, it has consisted of a network of nine measuring stations.
