Fruit Brandies and Wines Fail Authenticity Test

As many as 85.71% of the total number of the tested samples of fruit brandies and 92.85% of wine samples have failed the authenticity test. This has been announced by the association “Consumers’ Movement for Food Quality” (“Pokret potrosaca za kvalitet hrane”), which has carried out its second food-quality market-testing campaign.

Of the seven sampled brandies, six failed the test, and of the 14 wine samples, as many as 13 failed.

In the samples of fruit brandies, the botanical origin of ethanol was tested, and in the wines, the botanical origin of ethanol and the origin of water in the final product were tested.

Brandies made by local producers were taken from four stores in Pancevo, and the mostly imported wines (North Macedonia, Italy, Spain, Hungary, France) were taken from five stores.

– All the laboratory reports will be forwarded to the competent organs in order for the next steps to be taken in line with the regulations – it is said on the association’s website.

Let us remind that, recently, analyses showed that, of the 25 samples of the honey sold in stores, 22 were fake honeys with some kind of sugar added. More details (in Serbian) can be found HERE.

Judging by the information from the association’s website, an analysis of fruit juices can be expected soon.
