Investments of International Finance Corporation (IFC) USD 43 Billion in Fiscal Year 2023

The fiscal year 2023, between July 2022 and June 2023, was a record year for the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. The total investments of the IFC grew 30% to USD 43 billion, which is the biggest volume in its 60 years of existence, the IFC announced.

Last year, IFC invested USD 3.8 billion in Europe. That sum includes USD 800 million for innovative finance solutions – with a focus on micro, small and medium enterprises; USD 300 million for the decarbonization of production and the improvement of food safety; USD 100 million in infrastructure and social services; RSD 80 million for supporting startups and businesses relying on technology.

For example, IFC invested in the recycling of electronic waste and supply chain of electric vehicle batteries in Poland, developing an electric vehicle battery plant in Serbia. It supported the first bigger solar power plant in Albania and solidified the position of green bonds for renewable energy sources in Georgia and Poland.

– In the coming period, the strategy of IFC in Europe will focus on four priority fields: sustainability, that is, support to green transition; productivity, that is, deepening the capital market, modernizing the infrastructure, improving supply chains and supporting business which rely on technology; inclusion in the sense of increasing investments in social bonds, micro, small and medium enterprises, female entrepreneurship and projects for the strengthening of refugees; supporting the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine – the press release says.
