At the Zemun Rail Station, thanks to the composure and the quick reaction of the remote control dispatcher at the Belgrade Center Station (Prokop), a collision between passenger trains was avoided yesterday morning around 9.15 AM.

As the Serbian Railways Infrastructure (IZS) company announced, the dispatcher at the Remote Control Center in Prokop, from which train traffic on the Belgrade Center-Novi Sad railroad is monitored, reacted responsibly and in a timely manner, after registering an irregular position of the trains on the monitors.

– He ordered for the overhead head contact system on that part of the railroad to be switched off at the Remote Control Center, which was done immediately and the trains were stopped that way – they specify at IZS.

The problem and then the delay on the railroad within the Belgrade Rail Hub was caused by the so-called regio train, which was going from Novi Sad toward Belgrade Center and which passed the exit signal without authorization.

– A passenger train from Bar was going toward Prokop. This international train was entering the ninth track at the Zemun Rail Station. At the same time, according to the first pieces of information from the spot, the regio train which was traveling from Novi Sad toward Belgrade Center, started off from the eighth track and, without authorization, passed the exit signal which forbade further movement. Both trains were stopped on time, the collision was avoided, nobody is injured and there is no material damage – they emphasize at IZS and add that a rail commission for extraordinary events was on site in order to examine all the details of this event.
