Thermal Spring in Novi Becej Important for Development of Health Tourism, But Also Heating of Public Institutions – Hotel “Tiski Cvet” Looking to Expand Activities

Drilling a water well at a hotel in Novi Becej, they couldn’t even dream of finding medicinal water and creating the conditions for the development of health tourism. The surplus energy from hot water and gas, which was found accidentally, will enable them to also plan the project for the heating of the surrounding facilities.

The water comes from a depth of 600 meters at 10 liters per second, with confirmed medicinal qualities.

– We have three certificates, from Belgrade, Novi Sad and Budapest, of the water’s medicinal properties, of its composition and of its being recommended for balneotherapy tourism. At pools, you can often smell the chlorine, and here you won’t find that, because it is bacteriologically sound water – explains Ivan Zec, an internal medicine specialist.

In Hotel “Tiski Cvet” in Novi Becej, they can also expand the activities. They want a public-private partnership which would utilize their thermal source even better, because, in addition to the hot water, there’s also the gas.

– In addition to the water, whose temperature is 42 degrees at the spring and which, with our utilization rate of 10%, could heat 16,000 square meters, based on the gas, we could heat another 16,000 square meters. That practically means that all the public institutions here in the surroundings could be done. The advantage of this water is that it contains 30 minerals. Usually, waters contain 24 minerals. This water is mildly alkaline, since the ground we’ve come to is of plant-based origin – says Dragoljub Doroskov, the director of the hotel.

Around EUR 2 million has been invested in the project so far, and there are parallel efforts toward the development of health tourism. The aim is for the visitors who come for the beauty of the River Tisa in Novi Becej to spend more days here.
