The Faculty of Economics in Belgrade will take in the first attendees of the master studies program “Forensic Accounting” this autumn. The establishment of this program has been helped by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) within the US Embassy in Belgrade with a grant of USD 750,000, it was said at the panel on the occasion of the opening of the National Center for Forensic Accounting and the presentation of this accredited study program.

The head of the project, professor Dr. Dejan Malinic, said that the Faculty of Economics had developed an internationally comparable master studies program Forensic Accounting, applicable in the local environment.

Miljko Radisavljevic, a public prosecutor at the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, emphasized that forensic accounting experts were one of the links that the prosecutors’ offices missed in preliminary and main investigations in order to gather a sufficient number of valid pieces of proof for bringing charges, prosecuting financial and business crime and efficiently confiscating illegally acquired property.

The first generation of attendees of this prestigious master studies program, whose education in forensic accounting will be financed by INL, will be enrolled this autumn.

Danijela Mirkovic, a partner at the Belgrade EY office, emphasized the role of university education in forensic accounting in the improvement of the capacities of Serbian companies in preventing and deterring from corporate fraud, but also in raising the awareness of a wider public of the negative material and non-material consequences of financial fraud, all to the end of improving the rule of law and the competitiveness of the Serbian economy.
