Brnabic: ICT Sector in Serbia Not Slowing Down, Number of Employees Growing

The prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, called the allegations about the slowing down of the ICT (information-communications technologies) sector in Serbia untrue and said that the number of employees in that field kept on growing and that the export of ICT services would amount to EUR 4 billion in 2023.

– There is a slowing down in the ICT sector in the world, but it is still not overflowing into Serbia. In this year, we are still seeing a considerable growth of the employment rate in the ICT sector – she told the press at the Government of Serbia.

As she explained, there are some companies which are reducing the number of employees in Serbia, but the number of companies which are only just opening their centers in Serbia, as well as local companies which are expanding their business, is much higher.

– Since the beginning of 2023 alone, the number of employees in the ICT sector in Serbia has increased by 3,435 – she said.

Brnabic also pointed out that the number of employees in this sector in the first quarter of 2023 had reached 105,400, which is 17,000 more than in the first quarter of 2022.

She also added that, in the first quarter of 2023, the export of ICT services from Serbia had amounted to EUR 786 million, which is 44% more than in the same period of 2022.

– That is a greater export of ICT services compared to the whole 2017, when it amounted to EUR 740 million, whereas in 2012, only EUR 375 million worth of ICT services was exported. This year, we expect the exports to amount to EUR 4 billion – Brnabic said.
