Works on construction of central building of Novi Sad University resumed

Continuation of works on the construction of the central building of the Novi Sad University, for which the Government of Serbia and the Vojvodina Capital Investment Fund provided EUR 5.5 million, was ceremoniously marked yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Bozidar Djelic attended the ceremony marking the continuation of the construction works and said on that occasion that the construction of the central building of the university, which began 16 years ago, included works on the basement, ground floor, three upper floors, as well as garages and a double-purpose shelter.

- This building is a proof of our difficulties, but also shows that we are able to finish what the previous generation started - the deputy prime minister said.

He noted that it was important that the building would host not only the Rectorate but also the supporting institutions that demonstrated the integrated nature of the university.

Prime Minister of Vojvodina Bojan Pajtic said that an investment in science and education was also an investment in the future and development of the entire society.

The central building of the university, spanning the area of approximately 6,000 square meters, will include an amphitheater, multifunctional hall, university club, central library, IT center, offices of various university services and the Rectorate premises, Pajtic explained.

He added that one floor would be used by the Vojvodina government for the work of various agencies, departments and services of common interest for the development of science, education and international cooperation in these fields.
