The first ship, like last year, was controlled by the Dutch captain Anne Sijbranda, who knows the Danube very well.
– I am glad to pass through the Djerdap Gorge again this Sunday. I love Belgrade and I have my favorite tavern here – Sijbranda says, as reported by Beoinfo.
The first-docked ship carried 176 American tourists, which first went sightseeing in Belgrade, and then to Kovacica in the afternoon. The ship will dock another two times in Serbia: in Golubac and Donji Milanovac.
This year, there will be more guests arriving to Belgrade by river than last year, and Viking Line, the biggest shipping company on the Danube, has announced an increase by 30%.
A tourist from Pennsylvania visited Serbia for the first time. He decided to explore the city himself, and not in a group.
– I went sightseeing by foot, whereas my wife went with the group. Belgrade is a remarkable city, I loved the atmosphere, it seems that everybody is happy and having a good time – he said.
The average docking time for cruise ships in the Port of Belgrade is around 14 hours. Most tourists arrive from the USA (25%), Canada, Great Britain, Switzerland and Germany.
Last year, the Tourism Organization of Belgrade says, 573 cruise ships docked at the capital city, and this year, the number is expected to increase.
