Road toll collection will be implemented for trucks with a load-bearing capacity of over 12 tons, which use IB- and IIB-grade roads, so as to prevent the destruction of road infrastructure, stated the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

– There is a problem with maintaining IB- and IIB-grade roads in Serbia, which are mostly destroyed by the trucks that use them so that the drivers would avoid paying the highway toll. We will implement the obligation of road toll collection for trucks with a load-bearing capacity of over 12 tons on those roads – Vesic said at the Kopaonik Business Forum. Earlier, he stated that the regulation would start being enforced in 2023.

He added that each excess kilogram transported by the truck outside the regulations would be charged as well and that transit traffic routes would be announced, so as to prevent the destruction of local roads.

He pointed out that, that way, additional funds for the maintenance of those roads would be secured.

– The estimate is that the collection of this road toll will provide EUR 60 to 70 million a year – Vesic said.
