Serbia First County After USA to Do Ovary Transplant Procedure

The sister who has children has given a part of an ovary to the sister who has none. The twins are recovering well following the operation. It is the first ovary transplant in our country, region, but also outside the USA.

– Everything went as planned, we recently carried out the transplant procedure between two identical twin sisters, one of whom entered a premature menopause in her early thirties and had no children. The other sister already gave birth to two children and she has now given a part of an ovary to her sister so that she would be able to regain her hormonal function and give birth – professor Dr. Milan Milenkovic, a gynecologist and reproductive medicine expert, explains.

– This is the first ovary transplant in our country and the first transplant between identical twins done outside the USA. In the USA, the procedure has been done on around ten patients, all of whom have given birth, but in Europe and the rest of the world, it hasn’t been done before – Milenkovic points out.
